USCIS May Furlough Staff Due to Budget Shortfall

USCIS has announced that it will furlough approximately 13,400 employees starting August 3, 2020 due to an estimated $1.2 billion budget shortfall, unless it receives additional funding from Congress. Such a furlough would be expected to dramatically slow down USCIS processing times. We encourage you to email your congressional representatives to urge them approve emergency appropriations to ensure the continued operations of the agency. Any petition that is eligible for USCIS Premium Processing Service should be filed with such a request if a decision is needed quickly.
