Technical Problems at U.S. Consulates Nearly Corrected

The U.S. consular system, which on June 8, 2015 began experiencing technical problems that prevented the U.S. consulates around the world from printing nonimmigrant visas, announced that as of June 23 two-thirds of U.S. consulates were back online and issuing visas. The State Department predicts that its database system should be functioning properly for all consulates by June 26. The consulates will work over the following weekend to clear visa issuance backlogs.

In addition, many consular posts are now rescheduling interviews for applicants whose visa interviews were cancelled due to these technical problems. In some cases, interviews will be available as soon as June 24. McCown & Evans advises clients to check the website of the nearest embassy or consulate for interview appointment availability and up-to-date messages.
